An Interview with Marshall Payne - Revisiting a DEP author It's been two years since my first interview with Marshall Payne. In those two years, Marshall's writing career has undergone some interesting changes.

A Novel Approach and the Chatelaine's Poetry“Novel Chatelaine” is tiny. It fits right in the palm of your hand and is comprised of seven chapters which are in turn comprised of one paragraph each. I had to smile looking at it, for I thought, this is how Eileen takes the word novel and creates something that is truly novel. For all that it is tiny (probably the world’s tiniest novel), it contains the fullness of what we expect in a novel.

In 2006, The Triad’s Gift was published by the now defunct webzine, Deep Magic. Written by Aliette de Bodard, this novella was nominated for a Nebula Award in 2007, and was one of Aliette’s first published stories.

Maria Zannini and Touch of FireI’ll have to admit that I was quite surprised to find myself engaged by Leda and Grey’s story. Set in a future where the technology we’re familiar with has given way to the rule of magic and the elementals, Touch of Fire broke the stereotyped image stamped on my brain from reading paperback romances back in highschool.

Revisiting Mary E. DeMuth, Relevant GirlMary E. DeMuth, is one of the first authors I was privileged to interview soon after Inside the Writing Mind came into being.
Since that first interview, Mary has had two more books published. Building the Christian Family You Never Had, which is at once a memoir as well as an encouraging guide book for parents who grew up in non-believing homes, and Watching the Tree Limbs, her first published novel which is enjoying well-deserved praise and has been consistently listed as a recommended read by various critics.
Inside the Writing Mind went back to interview this woman whose transparency and generosity with her words and with her life has become a source of encouragement to many.

An Interview with Crista Ermiya - Poet, Fictionist, and PublisherWonderwall (Route 16), one of the anthologies published by Route is filled with short story gems that I’ve enjoyed reading. It’s also a publication I’ve shared with other writer friends. One of the stories in Wonderwall (“Surf Scoter”) was written by Crista Ermiya. A writer of Filipina and Turkish-Cypriot descent not only is Crista Ermiya a fictionist, she’s also won prizes for her short stories, publishes poetry, co-edits a poetry magazine, and is also the founder and publisher of the indie poetry press Dogeater.
